🎯 The Goal

I can use my spreadsheet skills to design, budget, and manage a world-class Theme Park within a fixed budget.

📖 The Walkthrough: You are the Manager!

You have been given £1,000,000 (1 Million) to open a brand-new Theme Park. However, running a park is expensive! You need to buy rides, hire staff, and make sure you still have money left for advertising.

Your mission is to create a master budget that proves your park will be profitable.

To succeed, you must use:

  • Skill 2: Professional formatting and currency symbols.
  • Skill 3: Basic math to calculate “Total Cost” (Price x Quantity).
  • Skill 4: Functions (SUM) to find the grand total and (MAX) for your biggest expense.
  • Skill 5: A Chart to show the Board of Directors where the money is going.

📥 The Starter File

Download the “Theme Park Builder” spreadsheet below. It has a list of available rides and staff, but the finances are a mess!

✅ The Checklist: Your Task

Open your spreadsheet and complete these milestones:

  1. Format for the Board: Make your headers bold, add “Steel Blue” fill colors, and ensure all money columns are set to Currency (£).
  2. Calculate Costs: For every item (like Rollercoasters or Security Guards), multiply the Price by the Quantity.
  3. The Grand Total: At the bottom, use the =SUM function to calculate the total cost of building your park.
  4. The Budget Check: In a new cell, subtract your Grand Total from your £1,000,000 budget.
    • Warning: If the number is negative, you are bankrupt! You must change your quantities until you are under budget.
  5. Analyze: Use =MAX to identify your most expensive investment and =AVERAGE to find the average cost of a ride.
  6. The Visual Pitch: Create a Pie Chart showing the categories: Rides, Staff, and Facilities.

🏆 Level Up! (Extension)

  • Ticket Sales: If you charge £40 per ticket, how many people need to visit your park before you make your £1,000,000 back? (Hint: Budget / Ticket Price).
  • Conditional Formatting: Make the “Budget Remaining” cell turn Bright Green if you have more than £50,000 left.
